Connecticuts own Zambonis release “Five Minute Major (In D-Minor)” Feb. 14.

Nestled between the NHL all-star game and the trade deadline, Connecticuts — make that the worlds — only all-hockey band, the Zambonis, release their sixth album, Five Minute Major (in D Minor).

Recorded with co-founder and former member Peter Katis in Bridgeport (though Zambonis leader Dave Schneider once said Katis can never escape the bands pull), the album features 15 new songs, including  Captain, which has to be one of the catchiest tunes youll ever hear; and Im a Puck, which is the subject of the bands new video.

The Zambonis take hockey so seriously they sought (and received) permission to use the trademarked name of the ubiquitous ice resurfacer. Over the years, the groups songs have been featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter, ESPN2, FOX Sports,  NHL Live on Sirius/XM Radio and on syndicated hockey programs including Hockey Week and Cool Shots, as well as in hockey arenas across the country.

The band has even performed at two NHL all-star games, in 2002 and 2011.

Although the Zambonis promise live dates to accompany the new album, theres only one show planned so far, March 11 at the Mercury Lounge in New York. Five Minute Major (In D-Minor) is due Feb. 14 on Blue Line Recordings.
