If you are a ballet dancer, chances are good that you will be on stage during the next few weeks.

“The Nutcracker” will herald the holiday season with a full slate of live productions, from a single performance of “The Chocolate Nutcracker” on Thursday to the 10th of 10 shows by Alabama Ballet on Dec. 18.

Based on Alexander Dumas pere’s adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s tale, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” (1816), the ballet was choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov to music by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It premiered on Dec. 18, 1892 at Mariinsky Theatre in St. Full article…

Auditions: National Anthem Tryouts

Your Corpus Christi Hooks are seeking National Anthem performers for 2012, director of ballpark entertainment Steve Richards announced recently.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Whataburger Field on Saturday, February 4, Hooks staff members will audition soloists, duos, small groups and instrumentalists for the opportunity to sing the Anthem before a 2012 home game. Bands and choirs are encouraged to contact Richards at srichards@cchooks.com before arriving.

Two Little Boys selected for Berlin International Film Festival

Robert Sarkies’ latest feature film, Two Little Boys, has been selected in competition at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival, which will run for its 62nd year through February 9th – 19th this year.

The film will screen in the Generation section of the Festival and will be judged by two juries: a young person’s jury which awards the prestigious Crystal Bear to the best feature film in the programme, and an international expert jury which awards a cash prize to the best feature film in the programme.

‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Sacred Star of Milos’ At Real Art Ways

Real Art Ways this weekend will attract fans of anime with a screening of “Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos.”

The animated Japanese action-adventure tells the story of a mysterious, fugitive alchemist, who holds the secret to the Philosopher’s Stone, two adventuresome brothers and the Milos, a beleaguered ethnic group who are doing battle with The Man.

It will be shown Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20 and 21, at the arts venue at 56 Arbor St. in Hartford. It also will be shown Friday and Saturday, Jan.
