‘Jersey Shore’ in Italy: Four surprises, plus first photos
The Hollywood Reporter spent a couple of days on the Florence, Italy, set of “Jersey Shore,” and the latest issue reveals a few things about the MTV phenomenon that may surprise you.
1. “Jersey Shore” started life as a competition show on VH1, a sort of “Survivor: Guido Edition,” perhaps. But producer/evil genius Sally Ann Salsano thought that with the right cast, it would work as a more traditional docu-drama.
2. Deena Cortese, who was brought in for the third season to replace departed castmate Angelina Pivarnick, was among 12 finalists for the original season of the show, but dropped out after her grandmother fell ill. Deena told us she was friends with “Jersey Shore” standout Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi before filming started but never mentioned she was almost an original cast member.
3. The sheets in the “Smush Room” get changed about as often as Paul “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio’s hairstyle. Which is to say, rarely. Also, the housekeeping of the Florence apartment will apparently make the Shore House look like a surgical suite.
4. When Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino‘s father posted nasty YouTube videos about his son, Sitch “wept on [Salsano's] shoulder, soaking her clothes with tears,” according to the story. The reporter says that The Situation is the most unlike his on-camera persona: “Forget the swagger and the cockiness; there’s a gentleness to him that’s utterly charming and a puppy-dog desire to please that never goes away.”
